AN ATYPICAL SINGLE MALT
August 17Tth is an atypical single malt with subtle smoky notes. The malting is carried out on site, respecting the ancient traditions. The distillation is done in a high quality Charentais still pot with winter barley called 'August' or 'Augusta'.
AGING UNDER IDEAL CONDITIONS
Ageing is an important step in the making of a whisky. This is why we attach particular importance to the choice of casks and their conditions of conservation. We select only high quality casks and keep them in optimal conditions. Our barrels are made of very old oak (between 35 and over 80 years old) and have contained Port or Cognac. They are stored in a room, called Chai, where all the conditions of temperature, light and humidity are combined to allow the whisky to age slowly.
TRIBUTE TO AN EMPEROR
Thierry Van Renterghem is a passionate of history. With this whisky, he wanted to pay tribute to August, the first Roman emperor. The name also refers to the month of August, a month where everything changed for the creator. The pewter label features August's head, which was painted by the designer himself. The label is made of pewter and comes in different colors, depending on its age: silver for the 3 year old, gold for the 5 year old, purple for the 7 year old and blue for the 10 year old.
A life course
The name of the whisky August 17th refers to the date of 17/8/1992, the day when the life of the creator was turned upside down after a serious soccer accident and some complications.
He had to rebuild his life, accept his disability, learn to walk again and find a new career path.
